About
Shropshire Brewery - The small market town of Bishop’s Castle, on the Shropshire/Welsh border, is home to the Three Tuns Brewery, a brewery with significant claims to fame.
A brewing licence at the site was first granted in 1642. Part of the existing brewery is of 17th Century origin, and this would be consistent with it having been the original brew house, which would make it the oldest working brewery in Britain.
The remainder of the present brewery consists of a tower erected in about 1888. The tower at the Three Tuns Brewery is a classic, miniature Victorian tower which, together with the older building, is described in its Grade Two listing as “a rare survival of a small, working rural brewery”.
This Shropshire brewery is renowned to cask beer lovers world-wide; many confess to visiting the town purely to see the brewery and sample the beer. The traditional character of our Brewery is reflected in the beers we produce, which are craft-brewed using only the finest ingredients.
Our philosophy is to produce beer that is exceptional, rather than standard, not only in quality, but in character, so that our beers have a defining quality, and strike a memorable chord upon the palate of the drinker. We take great pride in our aspiration to brew the best beers available anywhere.
